  2. Anyone has the ref info for the USA - Venezuela game?

    ReplyDelete
  3. There seem to be a change in Ukraine - Malta. According to the appointments of the FA in Austria, Alexander Harkam will handle this match, not Harald Lechner as it is reported on this blog. Fourth official is Markus Hameter and Andreas Witschnigg will work as AR. A second AR isn't appointed yet.

    1. It was reported in the way I posted it on the blog, but indeed that would be strange if Lechner does two A-team international games in two days. Thanks for posting the change.

      Delete
    2. It should be Lechner's last test before the U21 EURO, including his whole team with two AARs. After the appointment in the Netherlands it is obsolete.

  4. Friendly matches and disciplinary control, for many referees this combination keeps being a huge problem. Tonight with the Morocco vs. Netherlands game (referee Muhamadou Keita, Mali) another episode in the book of 'mismanaged' matches was written......

    1. Agreed. The red card for dogso to de ligt was correct but it feels strange after the referee chose to ignore 3 red cards for SFP because it is a 'friendly' (even no YC issued).

      39' - missed RC to MAR #08
40' - missed at least YC to MAR #10
      47' - missed RC to MAR #10
      67' - missed YC to MAR #24
      70' - correct RC to NED #03
      83' - correct YC to NED #15

      90+4' - missed RC to MAR #24

    6. Ignoring all these tackles and then giving a RC for DOGSO is a really bad joke for my taste. If he wants to be strict as shown in de DOGSO-scene, he has to send at least 3 players from Marocco of...
I can't understand this approach, I think especially in "friendly-matches" this kind of tackles should be taken out. When they start giving YC, it is mostly too late. Nobody wants to get injured in a "friendly", so why do they play in this way and why doesn't the referee do anything to avoid it?
I simply can't understand this approach from a team and especially from the referee. The referee's job is to protect the players and to make sure that the rules are followed. But this referee did nothing...

  7. Looks like African referees are learned to be as lenient as they can be.

I can remember in recent African Cup of Nations there would be in some games like 50+ fouls and it wasnt as surprise if ref didn't show any card, average was like 2 cards per game and 45+ fouls...

Way too many fouls and small margin of cards, but I guess that's their style of refereeing, show cards only when they are very obvious.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The tackle of the #10 of MAR in min. 39 was for me a clear red card. The ball was gone and he hits De Ligt with no intention to play the ball. Maybe #10 was hungry

  12. It will be very interesting to see appoitments for next Uefa WC Qualifiers.

In my opinion, Bih and Greece will be a tough match, we all remember what happened in their first match so because there are some tensions beetween two of them i expect big name for that match.Favorites in my opinion for this match are the ones who already handled "balkan type" of atmosphere.Rizzoli had Albania and Serbia couple years ago, Atkinson had also Serbia-Albania, Brych had Serbia-Croatia and Cakir also had Serbia-Croatia but I dont think Brych will get this type of match after his CL final appoitment, so Rizzoli, Cakir or Atkinson in my opinion should handle this type of match.

  14. OT : unbelievable mistake by Steinhaus at Lyon - PSG female UCL final ! At 33', forgotten IFK against Lyon's goalkeeper who take away the ball and catch it again with hands! Lack of vision by referee who run without vision of the ball. How it's possible that only one of others German refs didn't react and inform Steinhaus. Crucial mistake.

    1. There was this discussion from the Quarterfinal Wolfsburg-Lyon, when Adamkova decided also play on.
My impression live from the stadium is that it was even more stark today than that incident from before, but still it is a grey area to be honest.
Otherwise a good performance featuring a typical German management; fine in an easy match.

      Delete
    2. What ? Sorry but Steinhaus didn't détect nothing because she wasn't focused on the ball. And this not grey ! This clearly fault. No possibility to other decision. Please see replays...

    4. Agree with Benoit. Similar to the one occurred in Wolfsburg-Lyon but this time more blatant, at least in my opinion. She wasn't allowed to touch the ball again by hands: indirect free kick.

      Delete
    5. There is a simple reason why she missed that incident. It's because she has a very bad habit of turning her back on the ball and the play. I never saw her back pedal during the entire match. She could certainly use a lesson in backpedaling from Marco Rodriguez. In her case, her lack of backpedaling is due to her not being so fleet footed. So she turns her back on the ball to try and "cheat" while hoping that nothing happens behind her back.

      Delete
    6. Was this "cheat" word really necessary in this context?? :)

      Delete
    7. Just watched it, agreed with everyone basically pretty clear. I was talking about it being a grey area in general, but for sure this was pretty clear. Definitely Nando makes a good point, and Steinhaus MUST improve her fitness in the Bundesliga.
Overall good impression anyway live from the stadium, YC was okay at 81' imo, and convincing in the bigger picture of not the best game.

      Delete
    8. It's a term that I've heard used many times in many places to describe a referee or AR who tries gain an advantage on the field by taking up a favorable position in other top be able to keep up with play. Even if taking that favorable position means disregarding the ball or what may be happening behind you.

      Delete
    9. Alright fair play to you then mate... I wasn't acquainted with this use of the word... Always great to learn new things :)

      Delete
    10. Spirit and sense of the law makes Steinhaus' decision understandable and for me even supportable.

But basically, yes: Refraining from using backwards movement is always a risk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLA38U7w88w

      Delete
    11. But walking backwards can also be risky ;)
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJ8c9zVexmg

I agree, that the decision is supportable. Of course, the laws don't allow it, but they also don't allow to hold the ball longer than 6 seconds and nobody cares.

      Delete
    12. The goalkeeper is considered in control of the ball when she deliberately makes it bounce. Is there any indication here that she ever lost control of the ball? I'd say no.

      Delete
  15. Minute 81': PSG player very lucky to get only YC by Bibiana Steinhaus. I also noticed that the decision of issuing it came with a certain delay...

  30. Minute 40' in Italy - Uruguay: Italy wanted a penalty, Immobile went against Turpin head to head, it was a behavior close to RC. He was booked.
No VAR intervention and I agree: the situation is still borderline. However, I was really surprised how the Italian player reacted against the French referee (in a friendly...).

  33. About France - England to be played tomorrow, if we exclude all referees called for U20 and Confederations Cup, in addition to the officials appointed for Euro Qualifiers, we have only Bas Nijhuis and Anastasios Sidiropoulos as real options there.

    1. Luca Banti, replaced by Mazzoleni in EURO qualifiers, can be another option! That would be the reason for the replacement.

  41. Beginning of second half: Big decision in France-England. RC to Varane for DOGSO in PK area. Massa originally wanted to give YC, but very likely VAR changed the decision. There seemed to be a long discussion between Massa and the VAR's.

    2. Excellent decision. Clear foul that was not an attempt to play the ball and DOGSO. Red card. Well done!

    3. I agree, not a genuine attempt to play the ball and very difficult to detect live.
