Gianluca Rocchi and Sergey Karasev in charge of EL semifinals

  1. Well deserved appointment. I hope that my club Ajax wins

  2. Third appointment for Rocchi, I think this should be the last one. Everything is possible, but now it is clear that he wont handle EL final.
This is a very good news for Mazic, I guess.

  3. Now it's clear that finals will be shared between Skomina and Mazic. Why are you still so sure that it's Skomina for CL final?

    1. Since Skomina and Mazic are both in a good form, I guess experience could decide in favour of Skomina. Skomina is active in CL since 2008, 4 times CL QF and 2 times CL SF. Mazic in CL since 2012, 3 times CL QF, no SF. So IMO, if you got two referees who were equaly good, both deserved final, give it to more experienced. Plus, dont forget Vlado Sajn in referees committee.

    2. And Aleksander Čeferin ;)

I agree Skomina is more experienced referee but personally I think Mažić was clearly better in his quarter-final and Skomina always has some shortcomings in his games (positioning, acceleration, alertness, foul detection, etc.)

But yes, I think it will be Skomina for CL final although I would definitely prefer Mažić.

    3. I only would like to remind you that even if Rocchi now got a semifinal, this does not mean he has to be out of the final. I mean... we all know what happened with Clatts last season in the major club competition.

  4. I've been having a thought. Is it possible that Mateu Lahoz can be considered as a potential EL final referee? I could imagine that UEFA appoints him in Sweden, should Vigo go out and Mateu perform well under the eyes of Jaap Uilenberg. Any chances for that?

    1. He is appointed to U-20 WC, too.

    2. He will be out for that date, because in South Korea for U20 WC.

  5. Oh yes, totally forgot about that. Now it should be clear that both finals go to Skomina and Mažić.

  6. Why one match is on 3rd may and other on 4th?

    1. Ajax asked for changing the date because 4 May is the Dutch National Memorial Day.

  7. I think that Damir Skomina will be appointed for Euorpa Leauge final, becouse Mazic is in the career best form, this year he has really hard matches, so Mazic is safer option for CL Final. Instead of that, I expect Marciniak, Unidano and maybe Collum for other three matches in the EL. Final for Skomina, just becouse of Mazic great form.

    1. In the past years at least one observer was appointed from host nation. I am surprised no one from Croatia is appointed, expecially when you consider Croatia is one of the countries with most observers (six of them).

    2. Serbia - Republic of Ireland

      Referee: Anastasios Papapetrou (GRE)
Assistant referee 1: Jevgenijs Morozovs (LVA)
Assistant referee 2: Idan Yarkoni (ISR)

Assistant Referee 2: Manuel António Nogueira Fernandes (Andorra) 8,6
Fourth Official: Tihomir Pejin (Croatia) 8,2

He had an easy game with som crucial decision and mistake. He had some godd advantage(8'16') It was 2 yellow card. All yellow was correct. But in my opinion the first yellow was to late. (44' 45')
60' he missed a clear foul nearby in the french penalty area, the french defender used his elbow, but the referee dont whistle, missing YC (maybe RC) (-0,2)
He had 2 penalty siutation (27' 80+4') He whistled the second foul (80+4) in the hungarian penealty area. It was a good and correct decision.
      0-90' His whistle is poor.(-0,1)

      Assitsant referees:
      4' good offside decision
64' good offside decision, but to late
      9' "offside-goal" great and crucial decision (+0,2)
      59' good offside decision
      77' good offside decision
80+1' he showed two times the substitution while thw ball was not in the play and They have cared for the injured player, but the substitution was not succesful and when the referee want restart the play he showed second times the substituion. It was the differnt maybe 1,5 minutes ( -0,2)

    4. Fabio Verissimo
Okay first half with a lenient management of borderline SPA fouls, and a crucial evaluation that could have resulted in a penalty at about 15'-16'. No problems for ARs

    5. Do the officials struggle to communicate with one another as they are from different counties?

    6. @Ryan

I can remember an interview with Kuipers when he refereed a final of Under17 EURO and he said that he was pleasantly surprised with the quality of communication at the championship. However just watching a little of the tournament this year, it is clear that the trust between Referee-Assistant is lower than you would usually expect, there are some doubts between throw-in calls etc, however overall it has been okay imo

  9. In case of CL / EL final appointment for Mazic, it will be a very special event: a referee officiating two finals of UEFA club competitions in the same season.
    Never happened in recent years.

    1. IMO Rocchi will be the referee in Confederations Cup Final.

  10. According to some sites, Hațegan has been appointed for a semifinal in European cups. Let's see in a few minutes if Celta Vigo - Manchester United is the right one for him.

    1. According to CTA-RFEF, it is Karasev.

    2. So Hațegan is planned for a second leg, perhaps the return in Manchester.

    3. If Ovidiu gets Celta Vigo v Man Utd and the refs for U20 WC are out for 2nd legs then Çakir will end with just a single knockout stage game this year (Napoli v Real Madrid in CL), Kuipers with 2 (Schalke v Mönchengladbach in EL and Barcelona v Juventus in CL) and Brych with 2 as well (Porto v Juventus in CL and Anderlecht v Man Utd in EL)... This will be one of the most bizarre Semi-final appointments I'll have seen in the recent times... A touch more bizarre than even last time I must say!!!

  11. @Chefren, What are your thoughts on the 2nd legs?? No Brych, no Çakir, no Kuipers, no Marciniak, no Eriksson, no Collum... Who will the committee go for now??

    1. Well, I think that some officials appointed for U20 WC will stay in Europe until next week, there aren't other options if we exclude all the names called for South Korea.
      A possible scenario is:

      Juventus - Monaco
      Felix Brych (GER)

      Atletico Madrid - Real Madrid
      Cuneyt Cakir (TUR)

      Manchester United - Celta Vigo
      Ovidiu Hațegan (ROU)

      Olympique Lyonnais - Ajax
      William Collum (SCO)

      CL FINAL
      Damir Skomina (SVN)

      EL FINAL
      Milorad Mazic (SRB)

    2. Big question for me that how will be the referee in Madrid in second leg?
-Rizzoli? He was the referee on Bayern Real
      -Turpin? I can't imagine
-Rocchi? He has an EL SF
      -Hategan? I can't imagine
-Skomina? He will be the referee in the Final?
-Mazic? He will be the referee in the Final?
But the Monaco-Juventos is not easy too.
      -Rizzoli? OUT
      -Rocchi? OUT
      -Turpin? OUT
-Hategan? He was the Referee on Juventus-Porto
-Mazic? He will be the referee on the final or in Madrid?
-Skomina? He will be the referee on the final or in Madrid?

    3. Atletico de Madrid- Real Madrid *Cunet Cakir(Tur)*🤔

    4. @Chefren I think Björn Kuipers and Szymon Marciniak are way more deserving of a Semi-final than William Collum or Ovidiu Hategan!! Even comparing with Brych and Çakir, Marciniak and Kuipers had the better season... Will be really disappointing if Kuipers gets nothing after a really impressive performance in Barcelona v Juventus!! 😞

  13. My Predictions for 2nd legs :

    UCL :

Atlético Madrid v Real Madrid : Björn Kuipers
Juventus v Monaco : Çüneyt Çakir

    UEL :

Lyon v Ajax : Jonas Eriksson
Manchester United v Celta Vigo : Szymon Marciniak

    1. Honestly speaking, I can't believe that Brych is left out of semifinals at all.
Of course, only if it fits with the U20 WC.

    2. Maybe Brych in EL in place of Eriksson then?? Actually I was finding it really tough to choose between Brych, Çakir and Kuipers for the CL SFs... Technically Brych and Çakir would seem to be most likely but then Kuipers after a superb performance in Barcelona v Juventus has emerged as a really safe option so really difficult to leave him out as well... At the same time hard to believe that Brych and Çakir goes without CL semifinals so all in all I'm in a bit of doubt!!!

    3. I share your thoughts and I think it would be an option to leave Eriksson out instead of Brych. Or you put Cakir to EL. Or you didn't appoint Marciniak and give him the place of FO in an final...
But it is really difficult because there are a few referees who deserves to get appointed..

    4. Marciniak goes to South Korea for U20 World Cup so he is out from both CL and EL finals!!

    5. No. All referees appointed to U-20 WC can be appointed to CL/EL semis.

    6. Yes Ray you did tell me that yesterday!! I was saying that Marciniak is out of CL and EL finals because he'll be in South Korea then... Actually david was suggesting about making Marciniak FO in a final to which I replied that it's not possible 🙂

    7. Oh yes, finals are not possible! :)

    8. You are right Soham, I forgot about Marciniak is also appointed for U20 WC.

Perhaps someone could tell me the european names for this tournament again, I only remember Brych and now Marciniak. Then those mistakes hopefully won't occur again :)

    9. You are right Soham, I forgot about Marciniak is also appointed for U20 WC.

Perhaps someone could tell me the european names for this tournament again, I only remember Brych and now Marciniak. Then those mistakes hopefully won't occur again :)

    10. Referees : Felix Brych, Çüneyt Çakir, Jonas Eriksson, Sergei Karasev, Viktor Kassai, Björn Kuipers, Antonio Mateu Lahoz

VARs : William Collum, Pavel Kralovec, Danny Makkelie, Szymon Marciniak, Svein Oddvar Moen, Daniele Orsato, Anastasios Sidiropoulos, Felix Zwayer

    11. Referees : Felix Brych, Çüneyt Çakir, Jonas Eriksson, Sergei Karasev, Viktor Kassai, Björn Kuipers, Antonio Mateu Lahoz

VARs : William Collum, Pavel Kralovec, Danny Makkelie, Szymon Marciniak, Svein Oddvar Moen, Daniele Orsato, Anastasios Sidiropoulos, Felix Zwayer

    12. Thank you very much, Soham!
Now it's easier to predict the remaining games :)

    13. Who would you go for in the 2nd legs now, david?? 🤔

    14. My choices would be:
Atletico - Real: Cakir or Kuipers
      Juventus - Monaco: Brych

      UCL: Skomina
      UEL: Mazic

    15. And UEL semis:
      ManU - Celta: Eriksson
      Lyon - Ajax: Collum

FO in the finals should be Rocchi and Hategan IMO.

    16. Mine are:
      Atlético-Real: Kuipers
      Juventus-Monaco: Brych
      Lyon-Ajax: Eriksson
      ManU-Celta: Hategan

    17. @Niclas Nothing for Çakir?? 🤔🤔

  14. It's one big fight on the pitch of Amsterdam ArenA. Very physical game Rocchi adapts his style to. High acceptance of physical play, no harsh YCs, AJX' penalty appeal waived away (holding vs too easy fall) and two careless-reckless tackles not whistled at all. At YC incident in 40' Rocchi whistled for a foul immediately and issued deserved YC for SPA/reckless tackle but in the meantime AJX player stood up and continued his running. Missed advantage, but I'm sure most of us (all of us) would have acted like Rocchi. :)

    1. Well spotted 3-0 goal by Paolo Valeri!

    2. Absolutely, interesting to see both Valeri and Tonolini shortly looking to the top, probably waiting for the video replay on the screen :) (just my impression, I can be wrong).

Missed YC a bit earlier? Reckless stamp onto the foot or unlucky action?

    3. Well signaled goal by AAR2 Valeri, on his wrong side, actually reasonably hard to detect. On another note, hard to believe there is no GLT at Semifinal now...

    4. Would be interesting to hear the communication at the 3-0 between Rocchi and AAR.

    5. Yeah, reckless foul for me. If you have such possibility, check those two tackles in 37' and 43'...

    6. Will do by tomorrow.
In 88'/89', Lyon #5 should also be cautioned for my taste. Also here a bit unlucky, but still reckless.

    7. I agree, dangerous high-leg tackle.

  15. First half was ok. I would call it more a penalty than easy fall. In the midfield area Rocchi would probably have whistled the foul. YC for bith teams acceptable. Unlucky with the missed advantage, but supportable for the ref. Not a foul of Rocchi.

I like his performance so far.

  16. 1st half:

    no-YC Klaassen (potential reckless tackle)

    1-0 goal; no-offside call

    no-YC xxx (potential SPA)

    no-penalty call (holding)

    YC De Ligt (SPA)

    YC Gonalons (SPA)

    no-foul calls (tackles)

    2nd half:

    no-YC Tete (potential reckless tackle)

    goal spotted by Valeri

    YC Traoré (reckless tackle)

    no-YC Coulibaly (potential reckless tackle)

    1. Thanks!
      My opinion on some incidents:
21': YC could have been issued, but given the warning Rocchi can be backed.
28': it is a very borderline situation, I think penalty was possible there, but at the same time I can understand why Rocchi decided to play on, the player falls down too easily, the holding has less effect than what Ajax player wants to show to referee. Crucial mistake? I don't know, maybe again a chance to back Rocchi there.
37' and 43': I would have whistled the tackle in 43' as foul, definitely reckless and perhaps even more than that, live I got the impression of "excessive force". Even though player was able to hit the ball, the challenge couldn't go unpunished. On previous case (37'), for me still OK to play on, but yes, replay shows that tackle is made by both legs and also in this case a whistle wouldn't have been wrong. But 43' is more foul for me.
89': that's a dark YC close to RC for SFP, significant mistake by Rocchi, however the problem was that he couldn't have the exact perception of the incident, given the position where the foul occurred. I wouldn't be astonished in case of straight RC there.

    2. I'm surprised at your first video of the 2nd half (46'). That's not only a missing YC for Tete, the most important point is that it should be a penalty...

21' Acceptable to warn the player a last time, even if I would prefer a YC (compared with the one in 40' for example)
43' definitely a foul, probably a reckless one as well
      89' another missing YC

All in all, the one or the other mistake by Rocchi and not really convincing regarding his decisions. All the more, I'm happy he had the whole control and a good game management.

    3. In 46th the ball was played first. After that An unlucky stamp on the foot. I can't der a penalty or YC here.

  17. Again, Fellaini deserved a clear YC for his very unfair behavior against opponents...

  18. 1st half:

    no-foul call

YC Fellaini (reckless use of arms)

    Ander Herrera's dissent

    1. 2nd half:

      no-YC Darmian (potential reckless tackle)

      no-foul call (simulation?)

no-YC Lingard (potential SPA); mess with advantage

      YC Hugo Mallo (SPA)

Rashford's substitution (injury vs time wasting; management)

      no-2nd YC Fellaini (potential SPA)

      YC Pogba (time wasting)

  19. Hello 🙂 Is there any news on the referee observers appointed for the CL/EL Semi-finals 2nd leg matches?? 🙂

    1. Since Batta is not appointen od matchday 2 in EURO u17 in Croatia could it be he as appointed in CL (Atletico-Real) or EL (Man. Utd-Celta Vigo)?

    2. If Ovidiu Hategan gets a game then maybe Batta will observe him?? 🤔

  20. thank for the good topic.i like play football..
