  1. Eredivisie :

    Ajax v Feyenoord
    Referee : Björn Kuipers
Assistant referees : Sander van Roekel and Erwin Zeinstra
Fourth official : Pol van Boekel

  2. Anticipation: Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea has been appointed for Madrid's derby, on next week, Saturday 8 April. Very interesting choice.

    1. Most likely he will replace Carlos Clos Gómez on the FIFA list.

    2. Jesus Gil Manzano for the El Classico possibly I was reading in some site!!

    3. MARCA said so (about Gil Manzano), but I find it very unlikely, as he will have Barcelona two weeks before, that is, the previous away match against Málaga. Also, it would be the third time he has Barcelona in the second leg, so I don't believe he will be appointed.

About De Burgos, it seems indeed very likely (almost sure) given the appointments in Spain he's got this season (Valencia-Real Madrid and now Atlético-Real Madrid, and also a Copa del Rey semifinal between Atlético and Barcelona) and that he has already appeared in Europe as AAR this season, as did Sánchez Martínez before he was included in the FIFA list last year.

On other news from Spain, Mateu Lahoz has not been appointed for three consecutive MD after his mistake in Real Madrid-Betis when he did not send off Keylor Navas for DOGSO as he deemed it as no foul. Some media in Spain have stated that he was going to be "put in the fridge", that is, to be given a rest. It seems he has been.

  3. Polish FA informed that Bartosz Frankowski will handle the UEFA Youth League's semi-final between Real Madrid CF and SL Benfica.

    1. Wow, very good appointment. The referees for the other semifinal and the final should be already appointed as well. Some predictions?

    2. Treimanis and Aghayev could have good chances, maybe Klossner as well.

  4. Daniele Orsato will officiate Italian top clash Napoli - Juventus on Sunday 02/04 evening, then along with Rocchi (AAR1 in this game) will attend the FIFA seminar in Tuscany starting from the day after (Monday 03/04).

    1. Do you know, how long the seminar will be? Will it be the preselected referees only?

    2. From what I know, only preselected referees (no assistant referees).
It should be from Monday 03/04 until Friday 07/04.
Here the news on FIGC website:
Technical and physical tests, medical check-up, VAR among the planned things.

    3. That's why Björn Kuipers is not in the midweek Eredivisie appointments... He will officiate the Dutch top class between Ajax and Feyenoord and then leave to attend this seminar!!

  5. Nice to see the comeback of Probert (finally), from a long injury

  6. For the first time in German appointments for Bundesliga, I see an official appointed for two games: Rafael Foltyn assistant referee on Saturday in Hamburger - Köln and then fourth official on Sunday in Bayer - Wolfsburg. Is that the first time ever? I don't remember another case, at least in recent times...
Philipp, perhaps you can helpe me in solving this question :)

    1. I don't think, that it's the first time, but it is very rare and I don't have an example at the moment.
If someone wants to search ;) ("Ältere Posts" on the bottom gives you previous appointments)
Normally it is avoided, so I think Foltyn might be a replacement for Seidel, who is Siebert's regular AR2, in Hamburg.

    2. There was one season, I think, where DFB did that more than once (2014/15, maybe). But indeed, it is very rare.

  7. Tomorrow is Wolfgang Stark's 340th Bundesliga match. He is now leading the all-time ranking for most games, pushing Markus Merk down to the second place.
Further ranking: 3. Florian Meyer, 4. Herbert Fandel, 5. Knut Kircher

  8. Red card shown by Jérôme Miguelgorry in the En Avant de Guingamp - AS Nancy-Lorraine game

  9. QATAR

    2 April 2017, 19:30 CET
    Lakhwiya - Al-Jaish
    Referee: Stephan Klossner (Switzerland)
Assistant Referee 1: Remigius Zgraggen (Switzerland)
Assistant Referee 2: Marco Zürcher (Switzerland)

    2 April 2017, 19:30 CET
    As-Sadd - Ar-Rayyan
    Referee: Tamás Bognár (Hungary)
Assistant Referee 1: László Viszokai (Hungary)
Assistant Referee 2: Theodoros Georgiou (Hungary)

    1 April 2017, 19:15 CET
    An-Nassr Riyadh - Al-Hilal Riyadh
    Referee: Damir Skomina (Slovenia)
Assistant Referee 1: Tomaž Klančnik (Slovenia)
Assistant Referee 2: Robert Vukan (Slovenia)

  10. Śląsk Wrocław - Korona Kielce (Paweł Gil, FIFA)

    1) Penaly incident (pushing)

    2) Penalty given (lost position - holding, pushing)

    3) Penalty given for handball. Should the player have been cautioned (and sent off as he had been already booked) for dissent towards the assistant referee?

    1. 1) No penalty in my opinion, correct decision by referee to play on.
      2) Too soft if not totally wrong call, in my opinion. After the most significant action by defender (holding on the arm of the opponent), attacker doesn't fall, then he does that later without any further contact, for me a mistake, but of course live you can have the perception of a penalty, and perhaps for what had happened before the falling, small room for backing the referee.
      3) Correct penalty. About the possible YC for dissenting behavior against AR: for what I can see in the video, it looks like a "normal discussion", of course the player is still frustrated, but looking at the assistant referee, I think he managed well the situation. I can accept a NO CARD in this case because it wasn't a blatant reaction, for example screaming or making blatant gestures.

  11. What a foul by Barkley in Merseyside derby,6 min.

    Not even yellow given.

    1. Another brutal foul at 38' clear SFP, Taylor gives YC for persistent fouls
      No words...

    2. @Mikael: In terms of Guess the Referee, please check your inbox :)

    3. Very brutal fouls in today's derby, another one on Can .

  12. This comment has been removed by the author.

  13. SL Benfica - FC Porto

    ÁRBITRO, Carlos Xistra
ASSISTENTES, Nuno Pereira - Jorge Cruz
    4º ÁRBITRO, Bruno Esteves
    OBSERVADOR(ES), João Gaspar

    1. Overall good performance congrats - Xistra repayed the trust for this important designation.

  14. Missed penalty by Zwayer I would say. Unnatural arm position, it's much easier to give it rather than not. Not much reaction time ofcourse, but Bartra should not play "volleyball" in the box. I think Schalke got robbed, what you think?

    1. As a convinced Schalke supporter, I tend to agree with "no penalty". More tomorrow.

    2. For the elaboration of the handball situation underneath the video of the incident.

      90+2' Handball situation

      And two other video clips:

52' Onside decision and goal celebration

      Referee team after final whistle

    3. Thanks a lot.

      Pro penalty:
      - arm is highly raised
      - significant enlargement of the body surface
      - goes into the clearing action with already raised arms
      - small movement of the hand towards the ball

      Contra penalty:
      - raised arm is part of a natural, player- and situation-typical body movement pattern while making a step for a clearing action
      - no tensed arm, no clenched fist, arm bounces after contact with the ball --> unexpected ball
      - ball goes to hand from another part of the body, from Bartra's own foot
      - short distance, small reaction time

I tend to NO DELIBERATE handball. But what is sure for me is that this is NO CLEAR situation in the one or other sense. And therefore, the decision taken is at least supportable, even if one might come to a different conclusion one day.

      As for the other clips:
      52' mandatory YC of course..
at the end of the final whistle: understandable that Zwayer did not have as much humour and positive emotions as before. No idea what the mascot said - of course it does not look good. I however like how approachable he presented himself even after these emotions towards the players, coaches and media later on.

    4. @DutchRef: Could you please enable the videos for sharing / embedding? :)

    5. I thought I enabled the clips for embedding on this blog, but no? Will be enabled on shortest notice :)

    6. Sharing it on facebook did not work - but you don't have to do it, if it was enabled for the blog here, this would be enough :) Thanks.

    7. Should now be available for embedding anywhere 👍🏻

    8. Niclas, thanks for the good analysis about this incident. After seeing the incident now again from different angels I also tend towards no penalty. But Zwayer had to make this decision in few seconds and he made a right one. Schalke's reaction is understandable, but world class decision by Zwayer with this one for sure.

    9. @DutchRef: Thank you :)

@estkane: Zwayer himself emphasized that for him it is no clearly deliberate and no clearly undeliberate handball either. So both decisions would be probably supportable, none is completely wrong. This shows that handball remains to be the hugest problem referees face in the reality of the game. In terms of that: Good luck, VAR! In such a situation, he would not have overruled Zwayer. So maybe Zwayer would have gone out to review the incident himself. He would probably stick to his decision, as the situation was even unclear to him after the final whistle. I wonder how the crowd would have THEN reacted..

  15. The above mentioned situations from Liverpool FC - Everton FC refereed by Anthony Taylor:

    1) careless, reckless or excessive force?

    2) bad luck, unsporting behaviour or violent conduct?

    3) reckless or excessive force?

    1. All of them should be red card imo.
Also there is another on on 2nd Half (i guess between 65-70 mins on Emre Can), that should be red card as well...

    2. Most likely that one:

    3. 1) Yellow
      2) Red
      3) Red
      4) Orange

  16. As Monako-Paris SG 1. 4' 1st goal offside

  17. Handball in additional time, ARL-MNC (A Marriner)?

  18. What do you think about this incident? OK or not?

    1. Hey. Good decision for me. Clear penalty. Defender put his leg to attempt to fall down attacker. Good call for this Praha derby ;)

    2. Can be given I think, even though the attacker did not want anything else (the problem is that the defender did not do nothing, but put his leg out, as Benoit said. Maybe for the purpose of reaching the ball, but by that he actually also carelessly fouled his opponent, for me).

What I find strange is the advertisement on the back of the officials' jerseys. Looks odd and undermines their authority to my mind.

    3. Fraňek has been banned for 3 games after Referee Commitee meeting. It should have been an IDFK an YC for attacker.

  19. Head referee says corner which is incorrect. Assistant clearly wants a penalty.

    1. That's clearly in my taste one of some situations where head referee had to consult his assistant referee who has an obvious better view of contact. No team work here. Bad refereeing for me.

  20. A very interesting red card for denying a goal in Rennes - Lyon game (Antony Gautier)

    1. Very brave. We can't say 100% correct decision, but Gautier had his reasons to show a straight RC. First of all, the touch is punishable and the shot is clearly on goal, so, once whistled, a YC would have been the "minimum" there. Gautier issued RC because he was convinced, despite the presence of the keeper behind the player who committed the foul, that it was a sure goal. I have this perception as well, considering the trajectory of the ball, so I would back the referee. YC, however, wouldn't have been a mistake, because one can't be 100% sure of the fact that keeper had not chances.

    2. Well, at least one could deem it as denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. A shot on goal from that distance that freely should be at least an obvious opportunity to score a goal. Whether it is even a denied goal would not matter then.

  21. Ligue 1 match FC Metz-Olympique Lyonnais, abandoned last December after a Metz hooligan threw firecracker at the Lyon goalkeeper, will be replayed on Wednesday, 5th April.

    05/04/2017, 19:00 CET
    FC Metz - Olympique Lyonnais
    Referee: Ruddy Buquet
    Assistant Referee 1: Guillaume Debart
    Assistant Referee 2: Frédéric Cano
    Fourth official: Romain Lissorgue

  22. Bundesliga situations:
    1) Referee: Brand, Decision (2nd) yellow card
    2) Referee: Dingert, Decision, Play on
    3) Referee; Siebert, Decision: Goal
    4) Referee: Osmers, Decision: Play on / goal kick
    5) Referee: Osmers, Decision: (2nd) yellow card

  23. I like your all post. You have done really good work. Thank you for the information you provide, it helped me a lot.
